2nd & 3rd period

 

Monday - Discuss the vocabulary for Collection 2, page 43 (Holt Reader).  Introduce the story of the week, “Ta-na-e-ka,” page 134.  Introduce and copy the spelling words and define vocabulary words using context clues from the story. (6.1.10)

Grammar – Introduce the 4th technique for combining sentences, forming adjective and adverb phrases, page 32.  Complete Exercise 4 page 32, Combining by Using Clauses, as guided practice.  (6.2.9) (6.3.8)

     Homework – NONE

 

Tuesday – Read “Ta-Na-E-Ka,” page 134 – 141 (page 46 – 57 Holt Reader).  Define vocabulary words using context clues from the story. (6.1.10) (6.1.21)

Homework – Grammar - Complete Exercise 16 page 447, Combining Sentences Using Phrases

 

Wednesday – Finish reading and discussing “Ta-Na-E-Ka.” Identify the literary elements from “Ta-Na-E-Ka” with an emphasis on sequence of events and conflict (internal and external). Define vocabulary words using context clues from the story. Complete and check Vocabulary and Comprehension, page 59 (Holt Reader). (6.1.10) (6.1.21)

Homework – NONE

 

Thursday – Complete a comprehension quiz on “Ta-Na-E-Ka.”  Discuss the sequence of events.  (6.1.21)

Grammar Link - Discuss subject/ verb agreement. Complete pages 117 - 118 in the English workbook, Subject/ Verb Agreement.  (6.3.3)

Grammar - Review the ways to combine sentences. Check Exercise 16 page 447, Combining Sentences Using Phrases. (6.2.9) (6.3.8)

Homework – STUDY ISLAND – Literary Genres
