Monday - Introduce the elements of a short story - characters, setting, plot, conflict, theme, and point of view.  Discuss the sequence of events in a story using the plot pyramid.  Writing - Review the writing process and reasons for writing.  Introduce and assign personal narrative, page 48-52. Complete a pre-write for the personal narrative: the most memorable experience in their lives.  (6.1.3) (6.1.21) (6.1.22) (6.1.23) (6.2.1)

Homework - NONE

Tuesday – Continue discussing the elements of a short story with an emphasis on plot and sequence of events.  After reading a children’s book, students will identify the story elements.  Writing - After completing a pre-write for the personal narrative: the most memorable experience in their lives, begin writing rough draft.  Identify audience and reason for writing.  (6.1.3) (6.1.21) (6.1.22) (6.1.23) (6.2.3) (6.2.4)

Homework - NONE

Wednesday – Review the elements of a short story.  Working in a cooperative group, students will read a fairy tale and identify the characters, setting, point of view, theme, plot, and conflict.  Writing - Continue writing rough draft.  (6.1.3) (6.1.21) (6.1.22) (6.1.23)

Homework - NONE

Thursday - Complete a mini-book of the story elements.  Students will define, give an example, and illustrate each of the story elements  (character, setting, point of view, plot, theme, and conflict). (6.1.3) (6.1.21) (6.1.22) (6.1.23)

Homework – Quiz tomorrow – elements of a short story

Friday – THINK LINK TESTING - Review the elements of a short story.  Complete a brief quiz on the elements of a short story.  Writing – Final draft of personal narrative. (6.1.3) (6.1.21) (6.1.22) (6.1.23)

Homework – Writing - Final draft is due Wednesday
