Monday – Introduce the elements of a short story – characters, setting, plot, conflict, theme, and point of view. Discuss the sequence of events in a story using the plot pyramid. Writing – Review the writing process and reasons for writing. After completing a pre-write for the personal narrative: the most memorable experience in their lives, begin writing rough draft. Tuesday – Continue discussing the elements of a short story. After reading two different children’s books, students will work in cooperative groups to identify the story elements. Wednesday – LOGIC and Enrichment with Mrs. Triplett. After reading two different children’s books, students will work in cooperative groups to identify the story elements. (6.1.3) (6.1.21) (6.1.22) (6.1.23)

Thursday – Complete a mini-book of the story elements. Students will define, give an example, and illustrate each of the story elements (character, setting, point of view, plot, theme, and conflict). Compare the point of view in 2 different versions of the same story, The Three Little Pigs and The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs, (6.1.3) (6.1.21) (6.1.22) (6.1.23)
Homework – Quiz tomorrow – elements of a short story
Friday – THINK LINK TESTING – Complete a brief quiz on the elements of a short story. Writing – Begin writing final draft of personal narrative. Review proofreading marks for peer editing. (6.1.3) (6.1.21) (6.1.22) (6.1.23) (6.3.4)
